New subjects of the General Safety Regulation (EU) 2019/2144
Following publication of the new General Safety Regulation (EU) 2019/2144, as promised I am going to look at the various new requirements over the next few weeks.
Today we focus on the new features that the Regulation intends to mandate, where UN ECE or EU Regulations do not currently exist. The preference of the European Commission is for UN ECE to develop the necessary new Regulations, but they are prepared to step in if required to ensure implementation dates are met. Working groups have already been set up in UN ECE and Europe to begin to address the gaps. I will cover updates from these groups in future articles.
The table below shows the new requirements without existing Regulations, along with categories affected and key dates. As you will see, achieving some of these dates is going to be a challenge for the industry!
